My Experience With the Firefox Student Ambassador Program

My Experience With the Firefox Student Ambassador Program

In June 2011 I started studying Electronics and communications at K L University  and this is where I soon learned about the Firefox Student Ambassador Program. The main source of information about the program is the link I provided, but you should also invest time into checking out the wiki. In this article I will talk about my experience with the program and how I am working on promoting Firefox OS in my local community and how can one become a Firefox Student Ambassador.

Level 1 Ambassador Open Badge

This was the first step to getting into the Student Ambassador program. You basically need to register, learn about Mozilla and apply on their registration form. You will need to share your opinion and show that you are committed and willing to volunteer and help make the Web (and the World) a better place. In due time you will receive a response and learn more about the next step(s). In the meantime, Kate will be your coordinator and she can help you get started.

In general, your goal is to find a local Firefox club or a local Mozilla community in your area and join them on their projects. If no such community exists, try gathering a few friends and start your own! As its first time we are promoting Mozilla there are no local clubs for open source and Firefox. So, I started the group KLU MOZILLIANS where I met a lot of cool people who share the same ideas and dreams as I do.

Our main goal is to promote Firefox OS  and Open Source Projects here locally.

App Development

I was on may way to developing apps for Firefox OS with HTML5 long before I enrolled in this program, but the whole experience has inspired me not to give up. I currently working on applications.

Where to Go From Here?

Well, you've heard most of my plans for the upcoming month or so. I plan to work on promoting Firefox OS, organizing hack days and updating my own apps. But do I really have any long-term plans? Well, I wish that I did, but the general principle of: work hard and do what you love seems to be enough for me. As things pop-up I will be posting about them of course, but I can already give you a hint about my new upcoming article series which will feature a few interesting tutorials which will help you get started with application development for Firefox OS! :)
